merry old england

flying to london in the morning — have to catch a train at 5.53am — hooray!

hoping that i’ll be able to take my overstuffed laptop bag and a second coat aboard stingy ryan air. have 2 hours in the airport to make sure. only a 2 hour trip, so shouldn’t be so ‘orrible.

looking forward to seeing elliott, although he’s asked me not to do a british accent while i’m over there with him, i’m not sure i’ll be able to resist. looking forward to trying out my american impression on the brits though. also — must have curry.

robbed i tell you!

not really. just checked on threadless for the first time in ages, and lo a behold a recent winner seems oddly familiar. admittedly my one and only submission was pretty awful. hey, it was three years ago — gimme a break!

offically sooner than expected

well, this week has been notable for a few things:

  1. i watched chinatown, it was a good film. i’m trying to catch up on significant movies, the previous month was the godfather trilogy. i hadn’t realised that in his early years, jack nicholson could lower his eyebrows.
  2. i cooked the first real meal (on a stove, not a microwave) i’d managed since i left home. it was honey-soy chicken stir fry with rice, and my grandparents loved it.
  3. i’ve moved my return trip home. i will now be back in brisbane on the 20th september 2007.

eh, things didn’t work out with a swedish passport or visa, so it would have been difficult to stay on with the schengen restrictions. plans change. now i have around 6 weeks for western europe, and 6 weeks for the uk, eastern europe and turkey. i think that’s a good amount of time. i also get 1 week in hong kong, but i can always go back and do more of asia another time.

<nerdish sidenote> hopefully i can work out a way to buy a new laptop on hong kong; it seems to be the cheapest place. the macbook pro i’m eyeing costs $2 500 us, which equates to under $3000 aussie, and the us buck is only getting weaker. yet, to buy it back in australia costs $3 600? c’mon apple! maybe that would have exchanged the day after the asian stock market crisis! ugh. anyhow, hong kong is the only place which is cheaper to buy them in than the states. this laptop has taken a beating on this trip. it’ll definitely be time to replace her by the time i get home. </end nerdish sidenote>

i am looking forward to coming home — hopefully will be able to work something out about having only 1 car left in the family. really looking forward to seeing friends and family again. but i’m trying not to think about it too much yet. i’ve still got to plan out what to do after london, still much ahead. but hopefully the immediate future does not involve sleeping in a ditch or waking up in a bathtub of ice with my liver stolen. :D
